This series explores perception, censorship, and the strange power of suggestion.
Each drawing features ordinary, everyday objects such as orange peels, sausages, eggs, and ice cream. Nothing about them is inherently explicit. And yet, the presence of pixelation suggests otherwise. It signals to the viewer that something inappropriate must be hidden beneath… even when nothing is.
That tension is the point.
My work plays on our instinct to fill in the blanks, to project meaning where there may be none. If something appears censored, we assume it deserves to be. But who decides that? And based on what guidelines?
As a photographer who captures very intimate moments, I’ve had my work censored, banned, blocked, and removed, often for reasons that feel vague, inconsistent, or outright contradictory. Media guidelines, particularly across mainstream platforms and brands, are loose, shifting, and selectively enforced. That inconsistency made me question censorship beyond what is considered explicitly sexual.
With that in mind, this series becomes less about the objects themselves and more about the viewer. Their assumptions, their conditioning, and the quiet stories their mind creates in response. It invites a second look, not just at the work, but at how we interpret media, censorship, and where those invisible lines are drawn.
All of that aside, there is also an intentional layer of humour.
Because the truth is… I am an adult who still peels oranges into inappropriate shapes just to laugh. Every time. Without fail.
That kind of childishness, the kind we’re told to outgrow, feels worth holding onto. It makes hard days feel a little lighter, even if just for a moment.
This series is, in part, a celebration of that instinct.
The curiosity. The irreverence. The inappropriate giggle.
And if something here feels suggestive…
that may say less about the work,
and more about you.
